Here are a few things to note about your gas furnace:
- You will want to know the annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE) rating of your furnace. A high-efficiency furnace will have an AFUE rating of 95 percent or higher, meaning it can convert 95 percent of the energy it consumes into heat.
- Be sure to ask about the right-sized furnace in terms of heating output for your home’s square footage. A furnace too large for your home will frequently cycle and eventually succumb to wear-and-tear. If the furnace is too small, it overtaxes itself.
- Consider the big picture: is this also an opportune time to replace your air conditioner? In general, you will save significantly by purchasing and installing the two pieces at the same time. Today’s warranties are typically 10 years or more so installing heat & AC at the same time means that an extended warranty covers your entire system, not just one part of it. Switching out furnaces also presents an opportunity to have your ductwork inspected and cleaned.

“So while we were away, Comfort Now decided to put our up & downstairs heaters in. They arrived after it had snowed 18 inches only to see on my ring two men shoveling my walk so to get into my home. “Mid-day on Friday, December 24, I realized my furnace wasnot working. After going through a few numbers, Bob McAllister answered the phone. He listened intentionally and set up an emergency visit for that afternoon! Ryan showed up timely, and assessed the situation. My old furnace needed to be replaced. They were mindful of my request for shoe covering, Chris CLEANED OUT the hot-water heater closet before installing the new one and completed their work by mid-day!
